REPORT ON STORM PREPARATIONS

1-28-22

 

Below is a summary of our Departmental activities in preparation for the storm to begin Saturday morning and continue until late Saturday night. 

 

Our staff began preparing on Tuesday for this event, we are ready to respond.

 

We are being advised to be most concerned with high tide on Saturday evening at 8:48 pm.  We are likely to experience some minor to moderate flooding in northeast and north facing locations. Temporary road closures are likely.

 

Additionally, high winds will cause significant drifting of snow which will lead to some roadway closures and will prolong the clean-up activities.

 

If the forecast changes, we are prepared to adjust our plans to meet the conditions as necessary.

 

Chief Russo, our Emergency Management Director, will be actively managing the event response with Deputy Fire Chief Frazier.  We are fortunate that Chief Russo and all our staff have many years of experience with these types of events. 

 

 

DEPARTMENT REPORTS

 

• PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

·         All departmental equipment is ready to be deployed as needed

·         Sufficient sand, salt and fuel stockpiled. 

·         Staff and sub-contractors on-call and ready for the event. 

·         We are prepared for several days of full scale operations

·         Straits Pond has been lowered in preparation for the storm

·         Dune openings have been fortified

 

• FIRE DEPARTMENT

• All staff and vehicles ready
• Central and Greenhill Station operational and fully staffed

 

 

 

 

• POLICE DEPARTMENT

• All staff and vehicles ready
• Winter Parking ban in place – Code Red Reminder to be issued
• Bay Street to be made one way temporarily to aid in snow removal
• We urge any resident that can park off-street to do so, it will help plowing operations

 

 

·         LIGHT DEPARTMENT

·         Two stand-by crews will be stationed in Town for the duration of the event to address any outages that may occur.

 

·         Generators are ready if the National Grid lines that feed the Town fail.  Please remember the generators only work when the is a power loss to the entire Town. 

 

·         If there are downed lines in Town which cause a loss or power to a neighborhood or a portion of the Town, repairs to those downed lines will be made as quickly as possible. 

 

·         The generators will not power areas that lose power due downed lines in Town.  The generators only work when there is a loss of power due to failure of the National Grid lines that feed the entire Town.

 

 

• SEWER DEPARTMENT

·         Staff will be on-site for duration of the event

·         All pumps have been exercised and are ready if needed

 

• EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER

• Staff ready to open if necessary

 

 

·         COMMUNICATIONS

·         Code Red messages will be issued regarding Parking restrictions, and general advisory

 

·         This memo will be posted on Town Web Site, Cable TV, and the Emergency Management Facebook page and to the Hull Times.

Regional COVID-19 Booster Clinic Next Week

Towns of Cohasset, Hingham, Hull and
Scituate to Co-Host Regional COVID-19
Booster Clinic Next Week

HINGHAM — The Towns of Cohasset, Hingham, Hull and Scituate are pleased to announce that a regional COVID-19 vaccination booster clinic will be held next week for eligible residents of the four towns.

 

WHEN:

Thursday, Jan. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

 

WHERE:

South Shore Baptist Church, 578 Main St., Hingham

 

WHO:

The regional clinic will be made available to residents of the Towns of Cohasset, Hingham, Hull and Scituate only. It is being put on by the Health Departments of each of the four towns.

 

WHAT:

This clinic will be providing 300 doses of the Moderna booster to residents age 18 and older. Those who received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine more than six months ago are able to receive a booster.

Those wishing to receive the vaccine at this clinic must pre-register by clicking here. No walk-ins will be accepted at the clinic.

This will be a drive-up clinic. Those receiving a booster will not need to exit their vehicles in order to receive their shot.

Upon arrival at the site, vehicles will be directed to the check-in area and then to the vaccine point. Once the shot has been given, vehicles will be directed to a designated area of the parking lot for medical observation of residents post-vaccination.

Members of the Hingham Fire Department and Cohasset Health Department will be administering the doses.

Residents are reminded that facial coverings should be worn at all times while on site, even with residents remaining in their vehicles. Residents should bring their vaccination cards with them when receiving their vaccine.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, you do not need to get the same vaccine brand for your booster as your original COVID-19 vaccination. Those looking for their first or second dose of the vaccine, those looking for a vaccine for younger children, or those specifically looking for the Johnson & Johnson or Pfizer COVID-19 boosters should visit the state’s Vaxfinder website here.

Anyone with questions about this regional clinic should contact the Health Department in their respective town. The South Shore Baptist Church is the host only for the clinic, and the church should not be contacted for more information.

UPDATE COVID-19 GUIDANCE EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY January 4th, 2022

 

 

As the new Covid variant becomes more prevalent it is necessary to introduce a series of protective measures to preserve the Town’s ability to provide essential services for residents. Many Town departments are staffed with a few employees and the loss of one or two departmental staff member puts the service of that department at risk.

 

Effective immediately, there will be limited public access to the following public buildings; Town Hall, the Light Department, Library, Senior Center, Public Works, Police and Fire Stations and the Wastewater Treatment Office.

 

Members of the public are requested to ring for service at the front door of each location. A staff member will greet them and arrange for their service request to be met. Alternatively the public is encouraged to call or

use on-line services with any request they may have.

 

These guidelines will be in effect for the next several weeks and will be subject to adjustment as conditions warrant.

 

 

•     Masks are required in all public buildings regardless of vaccination status

 

 

•     Social distance is encouraged at all times

 

 

•     Restricted entry into buildings – we will meet and service at front doors

 

 

•     We offer a wide variety of services via telephone/internet

 

 

•     All staff will be reporting in person daily

 

 

•     Board and Committee Meetings will be remote (with exception of the School Committee)

 

While we understand the guidelines may cause some inconvenience our goal is to continue to provide service in a challenging health environment. We thank everyone for their patience and we hope to return to normal operations as quickly as possible. Thank you.
