South Shore Recycling Cooperative - Household Hazardous Waste Collection

If you missed last Saturday's Mega HHW Collection in Cohasset, here are sCohasset HHW collectionome options:
  • If you can wait till fall, store your material securely in a dry, well ventilated area.  After we firm up budgets and details, the schedule will be posted here.  A notification will go out through this list in August.  At the moment, 6 dates are reserved from  Sept 12 through Dec. 5.

  • If you are moving, click here for drop off options. Fees apply, and pre-registration may be required.
            Alternatively:
  • Offer to take $100 off price, or pay the new resident to manage the material.  Leave them a flyer with our website info. Have them sign up for our email notifications here
  • Give away usable leftover materials.
    • Post usable material for free on Craigslist or your local community bulletin board.  (You may be surprised what people will take!)
  • Ask a friend to bring the material to a fall event.
  • Bring your material with you (movers won't allow it in their trucks though).

       Did you know:
  • Latex paint, stain, and other water based coatings are not hazardous.  Learn what you can do with them on our Paint page  here
  • Some towns and retailers accept some or all of the following:  oil based paint, motor oil, antifreeze, mercury containing products, and rechargeable batteries. Find your town's web page on our Town Programs page here
  • Disposal options for those and other products are listed on our Recycling A-Z page here.
Going forward...
It costs your town, and you as a taxpayer, $50 to dispose of every 25 lbs of solids, or 25 gallons of liquids brought to HHW events, plus other operational costs. The best approach to hazardous waste (and all consumer products) is still Reduce and Reuse. So...
Fight the urge to buy the bulky bargain - listen to our cute and timeless radio ad about it here

Stay safe, stay sane, see you in September

Use Caution Swimming In Hull Bay and Nantasket Beach

Use Caution Swimming In Hull Bay and Nantasket Beach

Numerous Lion’s Mane jellyfish have been spotted last week in Hull Bay and Nantasket Beach, including the Weir River. The jellyfish spotted have a brownish red body with a diameter of 4 to 12 inches, with long brownish tentacles.
Please exercise caution when swimming or wading into the water. Also avoid contact with any jellyfish that have washed up on the beach. A sting from this type of jellyfish will produce soreness and possible rash on the skin that has come in contact with the tentacles.

Should you be stung and you feel you are in need of medical assistance, please call the local emergency service by dialing 911.
