Hull Beachgrass Planting Day

Saturday, March 23rd, 2019

T
he Hull Beach Management Committee is sponsoring our annual Beachgrass Planting Day on Saturday, March 23rd from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.  On that day, volunteers will plant beachgrass along the Nantasket Beach dune from Phipps Street northward.  We will be targeting the areas where the dune had received added sand this fall and winter.  We are once again excited about this event and hope that you will join us in planting beachgrass that day!

The Hull Beach Management Committee has made this an annual effort to maintain the dune so it can continue to absorb the brunt of winter storms.  The dune is critical to the protection of the town from flooding and storm damage due to regular northeast storms.

If you would like to join us in planting, please email your name, address, and phone number and tell us if you’re an experienced or novice planter to Paul Epstein, pepstein@paulepsteinlaw.com, or call the Conservation Dept at 781-925-8102.  Please let us know if you intend to participate (even if you do so each year) as it is important to our planning efforts to know how many volunteers will be participating so that everyone will have the beachgrass they need.  We cannot guarantee the availability of beachgrass if we don’t have advance notice of your participation.
Volunteers should report to the Beachgrass Planting Day Registration Area located at the intersection of Beach Avenue and A Street between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on March 23rd.  If possible please bring containers (e.g., cloth bags, 5 gal buckets) to carry your bundle(s) of beachgrass culms.  Thank you for your support.  We hope to see you on March 23rd!

PS  If we need to reschedule due to weather, the alternate date is Sunday, March 24th.  All of the grass must be planted on this weekend regardless of weather conditions.  If we change the date of the planting, we will do so by the afternoon of Friday, March 22nd and send out an email and leave an announcement on the Conservation office phone: 781-925-8102.
