VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - Beach Grass Planting - March 21, 2020

Beach Grass Planting Saturday March 21, 2020

The Beach Management Committee, in coordination with the Town of Hull Conservation Department and Department of Public Works, will be holding the annual Town of Hull Beach Grass Planting Event on Saturday, March 21st at 9am with a rain date of Sunday, March 22nd.  We will be planting beach grass from Phipps St. north.  If Beach Grass Planting needs to be postponed to March 22nd we will notify you on the Beach Management Committee Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/HullBeachCommittee/ .  Preregistered participants will be notified by email.

The Beach Management Committee has made Beach Grass planting an annual effort to maintain the dune so it can continue to absorb the brunt of winter storms.  The dune is critical to the protection of the Town from flooding and storm damage.

We need your help!  This year we are doing things a little differently.  We need both planters and planting leaders on the beach.  Planting leaders will be stationed at areas of the beach (for example- from Coburn St. to A ST) and will have tools and grass on the beach ready for you when you arrive at 9am.  They will teach new planters, be responsible for securing more grass, if needed, and collecting tools at the end of planting.  Planting Leaders should have at least 3 years of planting experience.

We would like you to preregister by sending an email to beachgrassplanting@gmail.comPlease give us your full name and email address and let us know if you would like to be a planting leader or a planter.  If you have friends who want to plant with you please let us know who they are. Also, if you have a favorite place to plant on the beach, please let us know where and we will do our best to assign you there.  Preregistering will eliminate the need for you to check in at A St.  We will have a table set up at A St. but only for those who do not register in advance.  A St registrants will be sent to where we need the most help.

If you have any questions please email them to beachgrassplanting@gmail.com.
